Telangana, the southern Indian home state of Hyderabad, celebrates Bonalu Festival which honours the Morther Goddess, starting from July 15th till August 5th. Festivities start on Sunday with great celebrations at the Mahankali Temple at the Golconda Fort and then continue next Sundays at the Ujjaini Mahankali Temple in Secunderbad. The festival roots go back to 18th century. Fly to Hyderabad from New Delhi in two hours or set out for an epic 24-hour train journey.
