Three Indian Festivals Not to Miss in July

Heading to India in July? Here are three colourful festivals not to miss. For the best celebrations head to Odisha or Telangana.

July is the month of Guru Purnima, one of the most important celebrations for Indian and Nepalese Hindus. Festivities will be held all over the country on July, 27th.

From July, 14th till July, 26th Odisha (Orissa), in the eastern India, will be hosting its annual Puri Yath Yatra 2018. Lord Jagannath comes out of his holy temple in a decorated chariot and devotees try to touch the rope of the chariot to get the blessing for the oncoming year. It takes just two hours to get to Orissa from New Delhi – you can check Air India or IndiGo for the best deals.

Telangana, the southern Indian home state of Hyderabad, celebrates Bonalu Festival which honours the Morther Goddess, starting from July 15th till August 5th. Festivities start on Sunday with great celebrations at the Mahankali Temple at the Golconda Fort and then continue next Sundays  at the Ujjaini Mahankali Temple in Secunderbad. The festival roots go back to 18th century. Fly to Hyderabad from New Delhi in two hours or set out for an epic 24-hour train journey.
