National Song and Dance Festival is On in Vietnam

Twelve art troupes and hundreds of artists are taking part in the national festival of song and dance which is on till July, 7 in the northeastern province of Cao Bang, Vietnam, close to the border with Chinese province of Guangxi.

The aim of the festival is to promote local culture, encourage cultural exchange and to evoke interest among young and rising talents into traditional performing arts. Other participating provinces include Dien Bien and Lao Cai, both in the northwest of Vietnam close to the Chinese province of YunnanSon La, also in the northwest and bordering Laos; north-central province of Yen Bai and northeastern Tuyen Quang.

The northern provinces of Vietnam, especially Lao Cai where the renowned Sapa region is located traditionally attract tourist attention with their uncomparable natural beauty. Rice paddies dotted with impressive carst formations, huge caves and hill tribes are the main draw. Besides, the region has much more to offer to the descerning traveller, starting with local cuisine, heavily influenced by Chinese flavours.

The most popular way to get to the northern provinces from Hanoi is by train which heads as far as Lao Cai.
