Last year, Sihanoukville airport experienced an impressive 115% growth in passenger arrivals and welcomed 338,000 passengers. If, as expected, the tendency remains, in the course of five years the airport will not have enough capacity to cope with its passenger traffic. The refurbishment planned is aimed to solve this problem.
After the renovation the airport will cover 4,800 square metres – 80% more compared to the current size. In the passenger terminal, more boarding gates will be added, baggage claiming zones and passenger lounges expanded. The runway will be extended, too. It will become 800 m longer what will eventually allow the airport receive bigger long-haul aircrafts.
Sihanoukville is a coastal city on the sounthwestern shores of Gulf of Siam. With a choice of appealing beaches, relatively low-key vibe and developed tourist infrastructure it is a favourite beach getaway destination in Cambodia with ever growing popularity. Currently Sihanoukville airport receives domestic flights from Phnom Penh and Siem Reap complemented by international flights from Kuala Lumpur (Malaysia), Ho Chi Minh City (Vietnam), Macau, Hong Kong, Seoul (Korea), Shenzhen (China) and several other Chinese destinations.
