To be able to operate within the frames of the new system, motobike drivers will have to pay MMK10,000 (USD8) which includes a MMK5,000 registration fee and MMK5,000 permit, while those who will fail to comply with the new law continuing operation without permit, if cauhgt, will pay a fine of MMK30,000.
According to the authorities, this measure will help increase safety for both passengers and drivers. Currently there are almost two thousand motorbike taxi drivers operating in the Mandalay area. When the new system is introduced, some of them risk loosing their job.
