The list is based on the number of hotel bookings made by international users during the first five months of 2018.
Not surprisingly, Ho Chi Minh City got the lion's share of all the bookings as due to a huge number of international flights arriving to HCMC international airport, this largest travel hub in the south of Vietnam serves as a starting point for trips up the country for many travellers.
Somewhat unexpectedly, Da Nang, a costal city in Central Vietnam comes the second while the capital city of Hanoi is only the third.
There are two more destinations in the central Vietnam on the list – Hoi An (4) and Hue (9) with the remaining places all but one taken by southern cities and towns: Nha Trang (5), Phan Thiet (6), Da Lat (7) and Phu Quoc island (8). Ha Long Bay closes the list and is the only northern destination besides Hanoi.
Though it may seem strange that Sapa, undoubtedly one of the most unique and highly popular destinations in the north of the country is not mentioned at all, it is probably due to the fact that many travellers prefer either to book rooms there locally or travel to Sapa as a part of a tour.
