Ly Son Island Invites Tourists to Learn More About Its Heritage

The first Culture Tourism Week will be held on Ly Son island in Quang Ngai province in the Central Vietnam from June 29 till July 3.

The event will feature a variety of sportive, cultural and entertainmet activities both for local and foreign tourists. A special exhibition dedicated to the sea culture & heritage of the original inhabitants of the islands will be one of the highlights of the event. It will include beautiful photos of the daily life of locals as well as amazing images of island scenery. There will be a musical festival, a traditional boat race with boats named after four sacred animals – the dragon, unicorn, turtle, and phoenix – and the national anthem singing to set a new Vietnamese record with over 3,000 singers participating.

The small Ly Son island is a favourite holiday getaway for the Vietnamese tourists but it is mostly out of radar for overseas visitors. Previously knows as Cu Lao Re, the island has been relying on seafood extraction for years and it is also renouned for growing a special variety of garlic. The tourism industry started developing on Ly Son less than two decades ago but the district administration feels there is a great potential. Though not much of a beach destination, the island offers a fascinating insight into the local culture, traditions, and cuisine.
