Bangkok to Host World Forum on Gastronomy Tourism

The 4th annual World Gastronomy Forum organized by the United Nations World Tourism Organisation (UNWTO) and the Basque Culinary Centre will be held in Bangkok on May, 30–June, 1, thus making Thailand the first Asian country to host the event.

As Thailand is putting great efforts in promoting gastronomy tourism in the country, the choice to bring the forum to Bangkok shows the recognotion of the endeavous of the country in this field. During the three previous years Spain, Chili and Spain again played host for the forum with about 250 participants from gastronomy and hospitality industry attending each year. This time, 567 delegates have already registered for the event.

The Tourism Authority of Thailand and the Ministry of Tourism and Sports of Thailand, both bodies supporting the event, have prepared a special program for the guests of the forum. Apart from symposiums, workshops and seminars, the delegates will have an opportunity to visit 4 districts of Bangkok each characterised by their unique culinary traditions and also enjoy authentic culinary experiences, including browsing local markets, in 4 local neighbourhoods of the capital. 
According to statistics, 20% of all the revenue from tourism in Thailand comes from consumption of food and beverages. In 2016 this figure reached 326 bln Baht.
