It is not the first initiative of the authorities: recently a guidebook 'Hello, District 5!' has been launched and a number of themed streets – for traditional medicine, fashion and jewellery – have been chosen. Two more streets – Tran Phu with its painting shops and Luong Nhu Hoc dedicated to traditional lamps are awaiting a facelift soon.
There is a sizeable Chinese community in District 5, whose presence is especially palpable in Hai Thuong Lan Ong historical quarter full of shops selling Chinese herbs. There are numerous Chinese eateries in the area, too, which are probably the main reason of District 5 being mentioned in one of the popular sayings about HCMC: ' Eat in District 5, Live in District 3 and See in District 1'.
Other popular District 5 tourist attractions include Dai The Gioi Water Park and MegaStar Cineplex.
