Lufthansa and British Airways Testing Discounts of Almost 50% in Hong Kong

Lufthansa and British Airways are trying to compete with low costers by copying the tactics of some US carriers and in response to long haul Norwegian Air with low ticket prices.

A discount if offered on a flight if you have no check-in luggage, board last without any choice of seats and get to know the airline and your flight time only a few days before it. With this flexible approach the customer gets a very attractive price.

A one-way ticket from Hong Kong to 13 destinations including Milano, Venice and Barcelona will cost half the price. A return flight to Lisbon, for instance, will be almost half the price for the same flight on the same date booked traditionally.

Lufthansa with sister airlines Swiss International and Austrian Airlines offers discountsfor unknown flight time and air carrier.

At the same time British Airways is testing no check-in luggage and boarding last with no choice of seats. In this case the passenger is highly likely to get a middle seat.  The air carriers are trying to cater for the changing needs of the customers. This might open a new era of economy flights.
