Feeding Komodo Dragons is No More Allowed at Komodo National Park

The authorities of Komodo National Park have warned the visitors that the Komodo dragons, which inhabit it, should not be fed.

There are several signs ‘Do not feed’ in the park in east Nusa Tenggara, which inform the travellers about the prohibition of feeding the animals. The carnivorous reptiles hunt and ambush prey like deer, horses, pigs and other mammals. Young dragons eat insects, geckos and poultry.

Though Komodo Dragons shy away from meeting people, occasionally, they attack humans and bite them. They might become unpredictably aggressive in case someone unfamiliar enters their territory.

Komodo dragons were first described by Western scientists in 1910. Their number has decreased due to human activities and they are on theRed list, but the Indonesian law protects them. For this purpose Komodo National Park was established in 1980. Plenty of these reptiles are found in popular tourist placesof Loh Baru, Loh Wawu, Loh Dasami and Loh Wenci in Komodo Island and Rinca Island. The guides and the travellers should know the park rules and should not break them as feeding the animals will do them harm. The visitors’activities are monitored to avoid violations.
