Sixty-six Thailand National Parks Close for Rainy Period

The Tourism Authority of Thailand informed that several attractions in 66 out of 147 national parks are closed during different dates in the oncoming months.

This happens every year to avoid extreme weather conditions during the rainy season. Besides, it is good for ecological recovery of the parks. Some parks were closed in January, some on March 1, some will be closed on June 1, July 1, August 1 and further on with opening dates at the end of September, October and later. The list of parks and dates of closure can be seen on TAT site.

National parks are territories having ecological importance or unique beauty or exclusive flora and fauna. There are 22 marine parks. All parks are managed by the National Park, Wildlife and Plant Conservation Department established in 2002. Wild tigers, leopards, elephants and ten per cent marine species can be seen in Thailand. Besides, it is a bird watching place. Many endangered species inhabit Thailand national parks. There are hiking trails, waterfalls and other natural attractions there.

National parks occupy 13.6 per cent of Thailand’s territory. The majority of them are in the north (59) and south (43), north-east (25), centre, west and east (20).
