2018 Tourism for Tomorrow Awards Winners to Ensure Sustainable Travel & Tourism Growth

The winners of the World Travel & Tourism Council's award 'Tourism for Tomorrow' that demonstrate world-changing tourism initiatives have been announced.

This year’s Tourism for Tomorrow Awards have been presented to Global Himalayan Expedition, India (Community Award), Thompson Okanagan Tourism Association, British Colombia, Canada (Destination Award), Airport Authority Hong Kong, Hong Kong (Environment Award), Virgin Atlantic, the UK (Innovation Award), Cayuga Collection of Sustainable Luxury Hotels and Lodges, Costa Rica (People Award).

The awards in several categories are intended to encourage developments in sustainable tourism. The international jury chooses the winners according to the roles they play in the industry. The winners provided training to people from disadvantaged backgrounds, took part in protecting wetland areas via ecotourism or took leading positions in their category.

The World Travel & Tourism Council is the only global body for the Travel & Tourism sector. There are more than 150 members, which are companies of the world’s largest economic sector.

One in ten jobs around the world is a job in this sector and more than 10 per cent of the world’s GDP, which is expected to grow about 3,8 per cent a year, is produced by it. It will lead to about 9 million new jobs every year, giving secured existence for various communities on the planet.
