Other popular beaches in the country are overcrowded while Dat Tham is still not very cultivated retaining undisturbed nature with the primeval beauty of the virgin white sand and the true blue colour of the water. Probably, its being situated in the protected area – Con Dao National Park – has played an important role. It is not always open to tourists, though, especially in the period of forest fires. It is not so easy to get there either, as one should go through the park office first and only then have a 6-kilometre walk to the beach.
Con Dao archipelago includes 16 small islands which are absolutely wonderful, ConSon being the largest one. They are rather isolated and are not explored by mass tourists yet. Only Con Son has got dive centres, a couple of hotels and some guest houses.
Con Dao is also considered to be among the twenty most mysterious islands on the planet by an American site Travel+Leisure. CNN mentions it as one of twelve paradise islands in Asia.
