Come to Cambodia to Celebrate Sangkranta, the Khmer New Year

Tourism departments of all provinces are promoting the Sangkranta celebrations to draw more locals and foreigners. Sangkranta is advertised in mass media, at hotels and restaurants. 

One of the highlights, the Angkor Sangkranta, will be held for the sixth time during the Khmer New Year which is celebrated when the harvest has been gathered. It is important as the majority of population is engaged in agricultural sector. The Union of Young Federations of Cambodia (UYFC) is in charge of organising the festival in Siem Reap province. About 2 mln citizens and foreigners will visit the events.The celebrations are expected to bring about $200 mln.

Other provinces are going to organise the festivals, too, hoping that their countrymen will not go abroad for the Khmer New Year, but visit local cultural activities. It will contribute to family reunion and keep the country’s customs and traditions. Participation in unforgettable colourful experiences, playing Khmer New Year games, demonstration of local business products, delicacies of traditional cuisine will attract more people.

Angkor is a gigantic temple complex built in the 12th century, during the days of the Khmer Empire, the main attraction for tourists in northwest Cambodia.
