Tourism in Jammu and Kashmir to Be Revived

While the rebel movement has influenced the numbers of tourists in the Indian state in a very negative way since 2015, the interested parties are eager to revive tourism. At present it is reported the valley is quite safe.

The number of international tourists has significantly dropped in Kashmir since 2015 because of the rebel movement with negativere views in mass media which scared the potential visitors. In 2017 there were7.3 mln tourists, which shows the decline of arrivals of 1.1 mln tourists in comparison with 2016 and 1.9 mln in comparison with 2015.

There is hope that the 64th annual convention of Travel Agents Association of India (TAAI) held in thestate will encourage tourism in the region. The convention, in which agents from all over the country participate, helps them to get acquainted with the opportunities and tourist destinations offered by the state. The main directions of the revival are film industry and golf.  Film tourism is expected to maintain the flow of travellers if movie shootings are welcomed. Besides, a roadshow which will be organized later this year will promote the state as a golf play area for Taiwanese. Hosting golf competitions will attract not only golfers but also viewers. Other festivals and events can also contribute to the heyday of tourism.
