Preah Vihear Temple Cambodia to be Restored by International Team

Preah Vihear Temple, the monument of the period of the six-century-old Khmer Empire, which requires restoration, is likely to be renovated with the help of Belgium, China, India and Russiaaccording to Kim Sedara, director-general of the National Authority for Preah Vihear.

Thesecountries will help make database of the repairs to be carried out. The fivegates of the Temple are in a deplorable state. China will repair the firstthree gates, India is to help with gate five and Russia with gate four.Besides, China will restore the temple building.Before signing the agreement the documents are beingprepared for the Cambodian government as well as for the governments of theassistant countries.The discussion of the renovation was held in Siem Reapprovince not long ago, but not all details of the project had been talkedover.  
There are environmental concerns as the temple is located inthe mountainous region and is subject to bush fires during the dry season andsoil erosion during the rainy season. Last month a few bush fires around thetemple worried the locals and tour guides.Preah Vihear was included into the UNESCO World Heritagelist in 2008.
