Passengers with over 56-inch Waist Banned on Board

Thai Airways International has prohibited passengers with the waist more than 56 inches to board Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner. Besides, kids are not allowed to sit on the laps of their parents in business class.

Thai Corporate Image and Social Responsibility Division announced the new rule last week. Two Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner planes were added to Thai air fleet last September. Flight Lieutenant Pratana Patanarsi, Thai’sdirector of security and flight standard division explained why the measures have been taken. The manufacturer of this type of aircraft installs an airbagin a seat belt on business class seats which does not allow passengers with the waist wider than 56 inches to fasten the belt as it cannot be extended more than its size. The company should definitely follow the manufacturer’s requirements concerning safety which make it impossible for passengers with the waist over 56 inches to book the business class tickets on this aircraft. The new business class seats cannot accommodate passengers with children on the laps who are not admitted on board either.

Thai 787-9s have 30 seats located like this: 1-2-1. It is stated that the size of a seat belt satisfies the safety requirements of the US Federal Aviation Administration.
