A New Airport in the Philippines to Boost Tourism

The development of a new international airport which will cost US$12-billion has been proposed to the Philippine government by a consortium of Philippine investors. In addition, a commercial aerotropolis will appear. In will unite a number of cities with an airport in the centre. 

It is supposed that about 2,500 hectares of land north of the Sangley peninsula in Cavite province will be used for the purpose. In case of the approval of the proposal a present Philippine Air Force base, the Danilo Atienza Air Base in Sangley is to help solve the problem with heavy congestion of the existing Manila Ninoy Aquino International Airport’s four passenger terminals during the construction of the new airport. Afterwards the Danilo Atienza Air Base will turn into an aerotropolis with office towers, hotels and other facilities. 

Two parallel runways with enough airside are being planned. The terminal capacity will satisfy the needs of domestic flights as well as of international ones. The airport along with the existing ones is supposed to meet the demand to receive12 mln tourists a year by 2022. The new airport will be a rival to the biggest Southeast Asia airports of Bangkok, Seoul, Hong Kong, and Singapore.
