Ho Chi Minh City International Airport to be expanded

As passenger traffic is expected to increase by 2025 to 51 million a year according to the French specialists  and by some estimates – even to 80 mln, there are plans to build another terminal and taxiways in Tân Sơn Nhất airport in about 2-3 years. A new cargo terminal will also be necessary to tackle 1mln tons of cargo.

There are stilldiscussions whether to expand the airport to the south or to the north, butchoosing south seems more probable as choosing north will bring passengersproblems with connection flights. Compatibility of the old and newinfrastructure as well as the total cost of the project should be considered. Noiseand environmental pollution issues arise in this regard and it is stated that normallife for people should be ensured with Vietnamese and international laws takeninto account too.

Besides, building a new road to the airport is suggested which will facilitate access toit.Quiteprobable is the appearance of subways to the airport to make it easier forpassengers to get there.

Though thereare 10 international airports in Vietnam, currently only 5 of them operateflights to/from abroad. One more international airport in Đồng Nai Province isexpected to start operating in 2025.
