The project of construction the new railway bridge across the Hong (Red) River caused a lot of doubts and concerns about the preservation of 112-year old Long Bien Bridge, which is historical and cultural value of the Vietnam.

As the municipal People's Committee reported, now there are some different plans of future development: to build a new, modern bridge with a design similar to the old one or to modernise the old bridge.
