This is the tenth time the government has worked with theFrench since 2009 to excavate and study the old caves which might be as old as70,000 years according to Heng Sophady, deputy director-general of the culturalheritage department at the Ministry of Culture.
Specialists from France, China, and also some Cambodianarchaeologist students have joined in excavations which are important forstudying the life of ancestors who inhabited the caves thousands of years ago.Three periods in which people occupied the caves have been identifiedpreviously. During the last excavation six graves were found estimated to be atleast 3,000 years old.
The work is expected to be completed in 2020. All theexcavations and the discoveries made during them will be described anddocumented in a book. The book will let anyone get acquainted with theexcavations and the finds. Any interesting finds to be made will be exhibitedat the Battambang provincial museum.
