In spite of Bagan is one of six “flagship destinations” in Myanmar and over 200,000 foreign tourists visited it last year, Burma’s Department of Civil Aviation is not ready to open Bagan for commercial international flights.

In spite of Bagan is one of six “flagship destinations” in Myanmar and over 200,000 foreign tourists visited it last year, Burma’s Department of Civil Aviation is not ready to open Bagan for commercial international flights. It plans to develop four international airports in Myanmar: Yangon (Rangoon), Naypyidaw, Mandalay and the new at Hanthawaddy.

The Myamar Government wants to increase international arrivals in the country and the Burma’s Minister for Hotels and Tourism also supports the idea of launching commercial flights to Bagan, but it is still opened just fot charters.
