Nok Air to launch east Thailand city to city flight link

Nok Air has announced a new route which will connect two of eastern Thailand’s travel hubs. Scheduled for takeoff on the 17 January, the flight connection will link the Esarn towns of Udonthani and Ubon Ratchathani and will fly three times a week in each direction.

Nok confirmed it will be using Bombardier Q400 aircraft with a configuration for 86 passengers to serve the route. The timetable has not been released yet but flying time will be around 45 minutes to cover the 320kms between the two airports.

Nok’s researchers have done their homework and found there is significant demand for a practical travel link between the two locations. Driving time between the two is around six hours while direct buses can take eight hours due to the numerous stops they make en route.

12GO notes that both Udonthani and Ubon Ratchathani are on the national rail network but are not linked. The only way to travel by train on this route is via Nakhon Ratchasima or Bangkok. The current option for flying is to Bangkok first and then change to another flight to reach the end destination.
