The doctor continued by saying researchers had started the process of bringing details relating to the bay, Phuket Island and other offshore islands down to Malaysia up to date. He explained that the reason for the updates was the information collated for the last application in 2015 was now outdated.
AS well as 2015, previous attempts to get a Tentative Listing as a Marine UNESCO World Heritage Site were made in 2014 and 2004. Doctor Vorratnchaianan said the previous applications had not met the exacting criteria required under UNESCO’s Outstanding Universal Values.
