Laos starts the construction of railway to Vietnam

The first railway in Laos should become the rail line from Savannakhet on the Laos-Thailand border to Lao Bao on the east border with Vietnam.

In spite of Laos develops a lot of projects to build railways through the country all of them still have not started because of bureaucratic difficulties. The first railway in Laos, excepting Nong Khai, Thailand Vientiane 3,5km line, should become the rail line from Savannakhet on the Laos-Thailand border to Lao Bao on the eastern border with Vietnam.

Ground breaking ceremony on this 220km segment was already held. As expects, the rail line should connect Laos with Vietnamese railway to the Danang port city. The construction of Savannakhet Lao Bao rail line will take about four year.

Laos also plans the construction of high speed railway from Yunnan province in China to Luang Namtha, Luang Prabang and Vientiane.
