There are seven intermediate stops en route and fares of between MMK300 and MMK500 have been set to reflect the distance travelled. The ferry boats are a mix of Myanmar, Thai and Australian made and come in different sizes. The biggest can accommodate 180 passengers while the small ones can only carry 60.
Tint Tint Myanmar won the franchise to operate the Yangon Water Bus service. CEO Tint Tint Lwin said the ferries would cut what is typically a two-hour journey between the two locations down to 45 minutes. She added that the company would also be expanding routes over the coming six months and just as soon as landing piers had been built.
