Thailand’s National Meteorological Department says other affected provinces are Songkhla, Phatthalung, Nakhon Si Thammarat, Trang, Krabi, Suratthani, Phuket, Phang Nga and Ranong. The department notes the worst is not over and more wind and rain storms are expected over the next few days.
The news bulletin warned the skippers of small boats and fishing trawlers that the weather could turn bad in an instant and they needed to be prepared. Over on Phuket, the local lifeguards’ association explained that red flags on beaches really did mean no swimming and should not be ignored.

Serious storms and rainfall in the southern provinces of Thailand have left large swathes of land flooded. Local authorities in Satun have reported floodwaters are up to 30 metres in depth and sandbag barriers have been put up to keep residential and business zones dry.
