Myanmar plans to privatise state railways

As the Minister of Rail Transportation reported, the Government of Myanmar is going to privatise some of the state-owned railways in nearest future.

As the Minister of Rail Transportation reported, the Government of Myanmar is going to privatise some of the state-owned railways in nearest future. The government is interested in Yangon circular railway, Yangon-Myitkyina and Yangon-Mandalay rail lines. The privatisation of Yangon-Myitkyina  railway it is a priority.

According the Ministry only some of 400 rail lanes under its management generate income, the privatisation should promote the development of railways and increasing its profitability.

We also remind, that at this time modernization works carried out on the Yangon circular railway and Yangon-Mandalay line. The renovation of Yangon Central Railway Station is also planned.
