Culture and music fest to celebrate Koh Samui heritage

An exciting culture and music festival scheduled to kick off next week will pay homage to Koh Samui’s rich heritage. Various venues on the southern Thai island will host parades, live music performances, muay Thai boxing shows and street markets.

A cyclothon around the island will see riders compete for a cup donated by the prime-minister of Thailand, Prayut Chan-o-cha. There will also be plenty of stalls set up at which visitors can buy Thai and island souvenirs, OTOP toiletries and delicacies, and the nation’s collection of gourmet snacks and meals.

The three key venues for the events are Chaweng Beach, near the ferry pier in Nathon Pier and at the retro Fishermen’s Village in Bophut. At the news briefing announcing the dates of the festival, Surat Thani governor Auychai Innark noted the cultural extravaganza would mark 120 years of Samui history.

Koh Samui Festival 2017 is scheduled to take place between the 7 and 11 September. 12GO ASIA notes that the festival website has full details about the concerts, parades and a free seafood buffet at Chaweng Beach.
