A cyclothon around the island will see riders compete for a cup donated by the prime-minister of Thailand, Prayut Chan-o-cha. There will also be plenty of stalls set up at which visitors can buy Thai and island souvenirs, OTOP toiletries and delicacies, and the nation’s collection of gourmet snacks and meals.
The three key venues for the events are Chaweng Beach, near the ferry pier in Nathon Pier and at the retro Fishermen’s Village in Bophut. At the news briefing announcing the dates of the festival, Surat Thani governor Auychai Innark noted the cultural extravaganza would mark 120 years of Samui history.
