The Purple Line links Tao Poon and Khlong Bang Phai stations and opened in August last year. When the Bangkok Mass Rapid Transit Authority (MRTA) opened the line the connection to the underground MRT Blue Line had not been built.
The outcome of not building the so-called ‘missing link’ was that passenger numbers on the Purple Line were way lower than forecast. After pulling out all the stops, the missing 1.2km-long link from Bang Sue Station to Tao Poon was inaugurated on the 11 August.
12GO ASIA notes that now is the time to ride the Purple Line to Khlong Bang Phai and Nonthaburi Province as discount fares apply until year’s end. The MRTA has already confirmed it will review fares then and adjust them to reflect original investment and operating costs.
