Thai AirAsia to add Bangkok Maldives route to network

Thai AirAsia has announced the addition of flights from Bangkok to the Maldives to its route network. The low cost carrier will inaugurate the service on 11 August with daily flights from Bangkok’s Don Mueang Airport to Male Airport in the Maldives.

Outbound flights will depart from Bangkok at 09:30 and land in Male at 11:40 local time. The return service leaves Male at 12:30 and lands back in Bangkok at 19:00. Flight time is approximately 4 hours 30 minutes in each direction.

Thai AirAsia says it will utilise its fleet of Airbus A320s to serve this route. These are configured for 180 passengers with one central aisle. A spokesperson says the airline expects flights to be at least 80 per cent full as the Maldives is currently one of the most popular holiday destinations in Asia.

Bangkok Airways is the only other airline to offer direct flights from Bangkok to the Maldives. 12GO ASIA says the arrival of another carrier will provide healthy competition. 12GO ASIA sells tickets for the Bangkok Airways flights and will add the Thai AirAsia service as soon as possible.
