Koh Samui mayor invites tourists to watch annual yachting regatta

The mayor of Koh Samui‘s municipal authority has extended an invitation to all to attend the festivities for the island’s 2017 annual regatta. This year’s edition of the Samui Regatta is scheduled to take place between 20 and 27 May at Chaweng Beach.

District mayor Piboon Omak said the regatta had evolved from humble beginnings and after 16 years was now one of the most popular sailing jamborees in Southeast Asia. He carried on by saying it was international in every sense of the word and this year’s event would see sailors from Hong Kong to Australia competing.

The first two days of the regatta are predominantly dinghy racing and practice heats. From the Monday onwards, the racing begins in earnest. Although sailing is the Samui Regatta’s raison d’être, the schedule includes a mid-week party and a gala dinner and presentation ceremony on the final day.

The regatta is one of numerous annual happenings which contribute to the eclectic attractions of a holiday on Koh Samui. Travel to the Gulf of Thailand island could not be easier when choosing 12GO ASIA.
