The CEO carried on by saying that the remaining 18 trains would be delivered as per the contract terms by the following year. Bangkok Mass Transit System agreed a deal for the 22 trains with the Siemens-Bozankaya partnership last May.
The trains will be utilised on both the Skytrain and underground lines. They are all being built in Turkey. Under the terms of the deal, Siemens will carry out maintenance on the trains for the first 16 years they are in operation.
The Skytrain opened in late 1999 and was the first of Bangkok’s modern train options. 12GO ASIA notes the Thai government is gradually extending the system. It currently links Hua Lamphong Railway Terminus and Ekkamai Bus Station as well as tourism attractions like Chatuchak Weekend Market and the Silom and Sukhumvit areas.
