Boutique US cruise line to launch second Mekong River ship

US based river cruise operator Avalon has announced the addition of a second ship to its Mekong options. The Avalon Saigon will join sister vessel Avalon Siem Reap in autumn 2018 and offer river cruises between southern Vietnam and Cambodia.

The core route will connect Ho Chi Minh City to Siem Reap and the fabled temples of Angkor. The base package will be seven days, but can be extended to include stays in the like of Hanoi or Bangkok. Like its sister vessel, the Avalon Saigon will offer a collection of suites and have a maximum capacity of 36 passengers.

In addition to the Avalon Siem Reap, the company operates a 36-passenger cruise boat on the Irrawaddy River in Myanmar. Both ships were launched in 2015 and have proved a smash hit with discerning travellers.

Avalon is a part of the Globus group. Globus spokesperson Pam Hoffee said demand for Mekong cruises was so strong there were not many vacancies on the Avalon Siem Reap over the next few months.
