He added that there was still lots of availability at cheaper hotels and guesthouses with nightly rates below US$100. There are a little over 400 accommodation establishments in and around the northern UNESCO listed heritage town.
The official explained that there was an eclectic timetable of events on the agenda for Songkran Pi Mai Lao 2017. These kick off on the 10 April with a trade show and follow with highlights such as a Miss Lao competition the following day and the Nang Sangkhan Pageant on the 15.
During the actual festival period between 14 and 16 April, tourists will get to see traditional rites such as flower and water spraying and the building of sand chedis in temple grounds. 12GO ASIA says people planning on joining the Pi Mai Lao celebrations in Luang Prabang should buy tickets while there are still some left.

The tourist bureau in Luang Prabang says over 500,000 tourists are expected for next month’s Lao New Year celebrations. A spokesperson noted that all the town’s premium accommodation choices had been booked solid for the beginning of the festivities on 10 April.
