Phuket Authority announced the end of flexible policy with respect to illegal taxi drivers on the island. Officials give them last chance to register until 22 November this year. All of the drivers who apply for admission will get their documents up to the end of the year.

Phuket Authority reported that in the next year would not be illegal taxi drivers on the island to provide safety and comfort for foreign tourists. The main reason for those serious measures is the increase in the number of complaints from travellers against Phuket taxi mafia.

“From January 1, anyone found working illegally as a taxi driver will be fined 20,000 baht for each infringement,” - Vice Governor Chamroen said.
