MRT construction has started in Jakarta

While Indonesia's neighbours for a long time have MRT systems to cope with traffic congestion in their capital, the project of MRT construction in Jakarta, one of the busiest cities in Southeast Asia, had started just on this week.

While Indonesia's neighbours for a long time have MRT systems to cope with traffic congestion in their capital, the project of MRT construction in Jakarta, one of the busiest cities in Southeast Asia, had started just on this week. It has been delayed for more than 10 years.

Jakarta's president director Dono Boestami warned that MRT construction would cause traffic jams on the already congested roads of the city. The first MRT track will connect the Hotel Indonesia traffic circle with Lebak Bulus in South Jakarta. The cost of the first phase will be US$1.29 billion.

In the future MRT system would be connected with the existing railway system.
