Top Indian sitarist to stage two concerts in Thailand

Leading Indian sitarist Purbayan Chatterjee is due to arrive in Thailand this weekend and will stage concerts on Sunday and Monday. The two concerts will also feature singing by Joyeta Choudhury and percussionist Rupak Bhattacharjee on the tabla.

Pattaya Classical Music chairperson Gregory Barton said the combination of Purbayan’s sitar skills and Joyeta’s superb vocal range will provide audiences with a cathartic yet exhilarating experience. Mr Barton noted that Purbayan explained each number before playing it.

He continued by saying the set list would be varied with Indian classics, bhajans, sitar and vocal solos among the songs. A part of the proceeds from each concert will be donated to the Thai Red Cross Society and the Craniofacial Centre at the King Chulalongkorn Hospital. HRH Princess Sirindhorn is a patron of the centre.

The first performance is on Sunday evening at the Siam Bayshore Hotel in the seaside resort of Pattaya and the second at the Sukosol Hotel in Bangkok on Monday. Start times for both concerts are 19:30.

ThaiTicketMajor and other designated outlets still have a few tickets for sale. Ticket prices are THB500 and THB700 for Pattaya and Bangkok respectively. Pattaya Classical Music’s website has additional details about times and ticket prices.
