The event is due to start this evening and artistes from the Chinese province of Sichuan have already flown in and are getting ready for their unique shows of acrobatics, traditional and modern dance, and operatic singing. In return, faculty and students have choreographed their own cultural performance which draws on Thailand’s rich heritage.
The culture shows are being staged to commemorate four decades of diplomatic ties between Thailand and China and the opening of a new Chinese consulate in Khon Kaen. The consulate officially opens today for visa and consular services.
Next Monday, the 29 June, the consulate will launch a business and investment advisory office. Announcing the series of cultural shows last week, Khon Kaen governor Kamthorn Thavonsatit noted that regions of China such as Sichuan and the northeast Isarn region of Thailand had a similar heritage and traditions and the shows were set to showcase them.
