Free shuttle buses from Phuket Airport set to go

The director of Phuket International Airport says a scheme to introduce free shuttle bus services will go ahead. Monrudee Gettuphan told local reporters that the shuttles will run between the airport and Patong, Karon and Phuket Old Town.

She added that the service would be a joint collaboration between the airport and Phuket’s provincial administration. Ms Gettuphan noted that the exact routes the buses would follow and timetable frequencies still had to be worked out.

The airport director finished off by saying that she was well aware there was already a pay bus service from the airport in addition to taxi and limousine services. But, she thought that free shuttles would provide passengers with additional travel options on the island.

The manager of the company that runs the existing shuttle buses from Phuket Airport said recently that the service was not profitable. Nikorn Phetcharat said the company had been forced to scrap the services to Phuket Town and had even made a loss on the key Patong, Kata, Karon route.
