She continued by saying that under the terms of the agreement the Bangkok Mass Transit Authority (BMTA) would take delivery of the first batch of 50 of the natural gas vehicle (NGV) powered buses next month. The director noted that the procurement agreement stipulated that all 489 of the buses had to be delivered within 90 days of the signing.
The joint Thai-German company Cho Thavee Dollasien won the contract to supply the new buses last month. They are costing THB3.5 million each and Ms Sulrasorn says this is THB1 million lower than the price the BMTA had originally budgeted.
She explained that the lower cost price would save the BMTA THB489 million overall. The purchase of the new buses is part of the authority’s plan to upgrade its 3,000-strong fleet. The BMTA has already stated that it will replace the rest of the buses with electric-powered ones.
