Ecologists say the release of the creatures into the seas near the Gulf of Thailand island will help with the conservation of the species and also restore the equilibrium of the marine environment in the locality. The move to rehabilitate sea turtles operates under the patronage of Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn and the Royal Thai Navy.
Pannipa Sermsri represented the House of Representatives at the inauguration ceremony. She noted that returning the turtles to the wild was also an early gift for Thai King Bhumibol Adulyadej to commemorate his 88th birthday on 5 December.
Koh Talu is a private island around 30 minutes from the shoreline of Prachuap Khiri Khan Province. It is noted for its stunning beaches and eco holidays. The island is a popular daytrip option for dive or snorkelling tours with tourists staying in Bang Saphan Noi or Bang Saphan Yai.
