English football champions to play in Bangkok

English Premier League football team Chelsea have confirmed they will be travelling to Thailand later this month for a friendly match in Bangkok. The newly-crowned league champions are slated to arrive on the 28 May and play against an all-star team of Thai players two days later.

Thai firm Boon Rawd brews Singha beer, Chelsea’s official beer, and a spokesperson says the players and manager Jose Mourinho will be bringing the league trophy to Bangkok. The representative also noted that Mourinho had said he was looking forward to coming back to Thailand as he had enjoyed the club’s last visit two years ago.

The Bangkok game comes six days after Chelsea play Sunderland in the last match of the Premier League season. Chelsea secured the title on Sunday, with three games still to go, by beating Crystal Palace 1-0 at the club’s home ground of Stamford Bridge.

Soccer fans in Thailand are in for an exciting time this summer as Premier League side Liverpool have also confirmed they will be making a return visit. A team comprising most of the Reds star players will play in Bangkok in the first match of the club’s world tour on 14 July.
