Spanish hotelier Meliá to open premises in Yangon

Leading global hotelier chain Meliá has released a statement saying it will open a new hotel in Yangon later this year. The Spain-headquartered group says its first hotel in Myanmar will open during the last quarter of the year and feature 429 guest rooms and suites.

The hotel is a part of a mixed four-tower residential and commercial complex currently being built by developers HAGL Myanmar. The complex sits on the shores of Inya Lake and, as well as the Meliá Yangon, will eventually comprise a portfolio of luxury apartments plus retail and office space.

The retail zones will include food and beverage outlets, a supermarket, banks and apparel stores. Bernardo Cabot is the Meliá Asia Pacific vice-president and he says the Meliá Yangon will offer guests top-notch facilities including a spa and well-equipped conference rooms plus access to all the HAGL complex’s premium amenities.

Mr Cabot said the new establishment was a re-affirmation of Meliá’s commitment to the region and was a stepping stone on the path towards establishing a presence at other key destinations in Myanmar. Meliá has already announced that it is expanding in Southeast Asia and is set to open a property on Vietnam’s Phu Quoc Island and two more in Indonesia under its Sol House branding.
