The statement by Meliá said it would open a four-star Sol House resort sometime in 2016 and that it would be the group’s third Vietnamese property. The complex will feature a mix of 260 well-appointed rooms and bungalows. Guest amenities will include a watersports facility and beach bar, a large swimming pool, a spa and two eateries.
A Gulf of Thailand island, Phu Quoc is situated 50kms from the meeting point of the Vietnamese and Cambodian borders. The majority of it is designated national park and marine preserve and as such it has retained a pristine natural environment.
Over the past three years the number of tourists visiting Phu Quoc has climbed by 50 per cent annually. Last year, authorities recorded in excess of 500,000 arrivals.
The surge in visitor numbers can be partly attributed to the opening of a new airport and the easing of visa restrictions. Holidaymakers visiting Phu Quoc only, and not travelling to other parts of Vietnam, are granted visa-free entries on arrival that are valid for stays of up to 30 days.

A leading global hotelier group has just released a statement saying it will open a luxury resort on Vietnam’s Phu Quoc Island. The announcement by Meliá Hotels International is further testament that the country’s southern island is fast developing into a destination of choice for international travellers.
