Quang Ninh Airport will provide business and leisure travellers with an alternate gateway to the Bai Tu Long islands in Halong Bay and the Van Don Economic Zone. The new facility is being built in the Doan Ket District of Quang Ninh Province and is around 200kms nearer to Halong than Hanoi’s Noi Bai Airport.
The estimated cost of Quang Ninh Airport is more than VND7 trillion and, if everything proceeds according to schedule, it should be ready to receive its first passengers in 2017. It is being built on a 700-acre site with a runway long enough for Boeing 777s and similar sized aircraft to use.
To enable greater annual passenger capacity, the airport will have parking bays for up to four aircraft. The terminal has been designed so the airport will be able to handle up to two million passengers per year.
