Nong Khiaw Laos – Best Value Hotels and Guesthouses

Despite Nong Khiaw being one of the less visited places in Laos, you will still find a selection of good accommodation options in town. Many of the hotels here are in the budget category but this also means that they are cheap and you won’t struggle to find places for USD 5 per night, especially in low season.

Ares to look for accommodation in Nong Khiaw

One thing to bear in mind is that Nong Khiaw straddles the Ou River and many guesthouses and bungalows are on the eastern side which is the other side of the river from the town centre. You will therefore need to walk or cycle across a bridge to the western side to get into town.

Budget

If you want to try one of the cheapest spots in town then head for Bamboo Paradise. Here you will find a selection of rooms and bungalows which come with private bathrooms with hot showers for around USD 6. The bungalows come with river views and are a good choice if you are travelling as part of a group. All rooms and bungalows have Wi-Fi and there is also a small restaurant here.

Another good choice is Meexai Guesthouse which is one of the newer guesthouses built on the eastern side of the river. Here you will find clean rooms, some of which have a river view and they have hot showers and modern bathrooms. They also have Wi-Fi that you can access in your room and you can find bungalows for USD 8 or you can choose rooms for USD 6.

If the Meexai Guesthouse is full then you can try the Phulisak Guesthouse which is also on the eastern side of the river and has rooms for USD 6 which have private bathrooms as well as televisions and reliable Wi-Fi. The rooms are clean and newly renovated and they have both cold and hot water available. One thing to note is that this guesthouse does not have an onsite cafe but there are a number of restaurants within walking distance which more than make up for it. You won’t get much of a river view here but if you don’t mind staying a little way away from the water then this is one of the best budget choices in Nong Khiaw.

One of the cheapest options in town, and also a popular spot with backpackers on a budget, is Sunrise Bungalows which has wooden bungalows that come with hammocks that you can lounge in while taking in the river views. These are between USD 3 – 6 per night making this a great choice if you are on a budget.

Mid-Range

For something a little more upscale, you can try the Sunset Guesthouse which is on the eastern side of the river and has spacious bungalows with private bathrooms with hot water for USD 18. They also have rooms for USD 6 if you prefer.

Another good mid-range option in Nong Khiaw is the Nong Khiaw Riverside which is also on the eastern bank of the river. This guesthouse has large bungalows with private balconies that have sun loungers and river views. These also come with private bathrooms with hot water which are between USD 30 – 50 per night but make a good choice if you are traveling as part of a family or group. Another reason to come here is that the bungalows come with a buffet breakfast with a selection of Western bites such as cereal, breads, bacon and eggs. They also have reliable Wi-Fi and you can rent bikes here if you want to cycle around town. They also offer tours of the area.

Top End

There is no really top end accommodation option in rather rustic Nong Khiaw, so Nong Khiaw Riverside from the previous section is probably your best bet in the upscale category.
