Chongqing China – 11 Best Hotels in All the Price Ranges
Chongqing has hundreds of hotels located all across the city ranging from dormitory style hostels with beds available for less than CNY50 per night up to luxury five star hotels costing in excess of CNY1000 per night. Except at peak times such as the Spring Bank Holiday or National Day hotels are rarely fully booked so you can sometimes get discounts at the more expensive hotels if you are prepared to shop around.
Budget Accommodation
Whenever we stayed overnight in Chongqing we would always stay in one of two hostels, one (Tina’s) was in an area of the city that was due to be redeveloped so that hostel sadly disappeared a few years ago, the other was called the Yangtze River International Hostel which sadly we cannot find any current information about as their website is not available. There are at least six international hostels in Chongqing and each has a good rating.
The Chongqing Travelling With Hostel is located on Zhongxing Road in Jiefangbei. It is also known as the Greenforest Hostel and is part of a small chain of hostels with others in Nanning, Guilin and Yangshuo. The hostel is located in the centre of Chongqing, close to the Jiaochangkou Metro station with shopping malls and the old part of the city close by. They have a choice of dorm rooms, private single, double and family rooms when available with 24 hour hot water, fast internet and good food. If you are there on a Saturday you are invited to a free dumpling making class. Dorm rooms cost from CNY45, double en-suite rooms cost CNY208 and 5 bed family rooms cost from CNY450.
The Only Café and Backpacker Hostel is located in Yuzhong District of the city on Daxigouhe Street. It is just a few metres from exit A of the Daxigou metro station on line 2. You are offered a free latte when you check in and there is free Wi-Fi available throughout the hostel. It is easy to reach from the airport via lines 3 and then 2, while taking a number 862 bus from Chongqing Railway Station and getting off at the 4th stop will bring you to the hostel. The Great Hall of the People and the Three Gorges Museum are just a 5 minute walk away and other attractions are easily reached on the metro. Dorm rooms are available here from just CNY50.
The Railway Guesthouse is ideally located if you have an early train to catch. It is adjacent to the Chongqing Railway station in the centre of the city and beds in a four bed room cost from CNY100 or in a 2 bedroom en-suite from CNY160 per night.
The Seven Days Inn is a chain of budget rated hotels, there are several across the city and the rooms are generally clean and in good locations. Rooms are all en-suite with air conditioning with a TV and Wi-Fi. They cost from CNY150 for a room per night.
Mid- Range Hotels in Chongqing
The Xinhua Jiudian Hotel is on Qingnian Road in Yuzhong district of Chongqing. It has a restaurant and free high speed internet although its air conditioning system is not that good. It is classed as a four star hotel with 112 rooms and a standard room costs from CNY241 to CNY349 per night. It is in a good location, close to the metro and the tourist attractions of the victory monument as well as the Red Cliff Cave. There are several restaurants close by that may well be better options than the hotel restaurant. They have some tours to attractions outside the city but these are much more expensive than using public transport, they do however have a service for booking train tickets that can save a lot of time in going to the station yourself and charge just CNY20 per ticket.
The Jundun Xiudi Hotel is a bed and breakfast hotel on Huixing Fuzhuangcheng Avenue in the city. It has good access to supermarkets and local attractions, a high level of service in the hotel with a good breakfast (much better than most breakfasts in Chinese hotels) and is highly recommended. Standard rooms cost CNY266-355 per night.
The Chung King Hotel has reasonably priced rooms that are nicely decorated and furnished. The TV has pay-per-view channels and regular satellite TV with a few English channels. When ordering food on room service you should be prepared for great tasting club sandwiches. The western restaurant is a little complicated to find in this maze of a hotel. Once you find it they serve amazingly large bowls of spaghetti bolognaise, so worth the effort of tracking down the restaurant. They also can assist you with buying train tickets and currency exchange.
The Chongqing Tianci Hot Spring Resort Hotel is located on Tianci Hot Spring Road in Chongqing’s Jiulongpo district near to the High-Tech Zone. It is a very relaxing hotel with several different relaxation pools; if you don’t want to stay overnight you can still use the pools for the day or half day. It is a bus ride out of the city centre and if the traffic is heavy, which it often is in Chongqing, it can take an hour on the bus. A standard room at this 181 room hotel costs from CNY311 up to CNY399 at this four star rated hotel.
The Somerset Jiefangbei Chongqing on Minzu Road in Yuzhong district is an apartment hotel with accommodation ranging from studio apartments up to larger ones with two bedrooms. They all have their own living and dining areas, an en-suite bathroom, a high quality home entertainment system, free Wi-Fi and come with scenic views. It costs from CNY200 per night at this quality apartment hotel.
Luxury Hotel Accommodation in Chongqing
The Regent Chongqing is located on Jinshamen Road in Jiangbei district; it is one of the finest hotels to be found in Chongqing with a swimming pool, restaurants, bar and lounge, a fitness centre, gym and workout room in addition to a spa. There is free high speed internet available throughout the hotel, each of the 202 rooms has its own mini-bar, and there is a refrigerator in each room and air conditioning. A standard room comes from CNY913-1109, but if you book online out of the high season rooms are available for just CNY799 per night. There are smoking and non-smoking rooms available as are suites.
The InterContinental Chongqing is on Minzu Road in Yuzhong district, right in the heart of the city. It is ideally situated close to the major landmarks, the shopping malls and hosts of restaurants and bars. The Chaotianmen Dock is just five minutes away by car from there you can take a trip to see the three gorges. The hotel has a fitness centre complete with a gym, workout room and a spa. There is a swimming pool, western and Chinese restaurants, bars and lounges, business facilities such as meeting and conference rooms. There are at all times multi-lingual staff available as is a babysitting service. Rooms cost from CNY742 up to CNY957 for a standard room at this five star hotel. There are 338 rooms available including smoking or non-smoking rooms, family rooms and suites. The most expensive suites cost up to CNY1838 per night.
