Учтите, что билеты в вагоны первого класса не всегда доступны для коротких отрезков длиной в пару часов в рамках более длинного маршрута. Нередко их оставляют для путешественников, которые планируют проехать весь маршрут целиком. Для более коротких поездок продолжительностью 4-5 часов вполне подойдут вагоны второго класса либо сидячие вагоны с мягкими креслами. Не забудьте уточнить, что включено в стоимость билета. Например, на ночных поездах белье может быть как включено, так и нет; то же относится к воде, снекам и туалетным принадлежностям. Лайфхак: одевайтесь так, чтобы можно было и раздеться, и одеться потеплее, т.к. в зависимости от сезона и кондиционирование, и обогрев могут быть либо чрезмерными, либо не такими эффективными, как хотелось бы.

- Ничто так не спасает от пробок, как поезд. Конечно, и тут возможны задержки и опоздания в силу различных причин, но ни час-пик, ни длинные выходные, ни отпускная лихорадка не сможет сильно сбить ваш график, если вы едете поездом.
- Онлайн бронирование жд билетов экономит уйму времени. Для многих направлений продажа билетов открывается за 90 дней до даты путешествия, что не может не порадовать любителей долгосрочного планирования, правда? В то же время почти всегда есть доступные опции и для тех, кто все делает в последнюю минуту. Чтобы купить билет, на вокзал идти не придется – приобретайте все онлайн откуда и когда удобно.
- В большинстве случаев жд билеты намного более доступные, чем авиа. На некоторых маршрутах скоростные поезда по времени не уступают, а иногда и дают фору самолетам – особенно, если учесть время, которое вы тратите в аэропорту на регистрацию, погранконтроль и/или прохождение службы безопасности.
- Зачастую железнодорожные вокзалы расположены в центре города. Такое расположение сэкономит вам немало времени на поездку с вокзала в отель. Кроме того, старые вокзалы нередко расположены в исторических зданиях и, по сути, сами по себе достопримечательность. Отправиться в путь с или прибыть на такой вокзал – уже само по себе приключение, которое точно украсит ваш маршрут.
- Помимо того, что ночные поезда экономят вам дневное время на что-то более приятное, ночь в поезде – это минус расходы на отель. Если вы в спальном вагоне – или даже плацкарте, – шансы выспаться вполне высокие. Ну как высокие. Выше, чем в ночном автобусе точно!
- По некоторым маршрутам курсируют тематические роскошные поезда наподобие Восточного Экспресса. И, конечно, путешествие на таком поезде – шикарный опыт, и уж точно стоит попробовать приобрести его хотя бы однажды в жизни.
Минусы железнодорожного путешествия
- Чем больше расстояние – тем дольше поездка на поезде, чудес тут нет. И, конечно, для перемещения на дальние расстояния она может занять ну очень много времени. Поэтому порой стоит все же отдать предпочтение самолету – пусть даже это более дорогой вариант.
- Если собираетесь продолжить путешествие далее, планируйте стыковки с жд поездкой особенно тщательно. Хотя расписание вроде как фиксированное, но по разным причинам случаются и задержки в пути, и отмены. Еще важный момент: месторасположение жд вокзала отправления и прибытия. В некоторых населенных пунктах, особенно крупных, бывает по несколько вокзалов, в связи с чем возможны всяческие недоразумения.
- Одна из самых частых претензий к поездам на некоторых маршрутах – чистота. Точнее, ее отсутствие. Особенно это касается туалетов в самых дешевых вагонах.
- Учитывайте, что в некоторых поездах остановки не всегда объявляются отчетливо и членораздельно – если вообще объявляются. Электронное табло спасает ситуацию, но увы, такие табло установлены не везде. Так что логично отслеживать приближение к станции назначения по навигатору – ну или попросить проводника, ежели таковой имеется, не забыть предупредить вас о прибытии.

The train and cabin was very clean and the crew provided good service. Hot and cold water was available for free. But the train was very old and so very load and heavy shaking. Sleeping was hardly possible, VN Railway was much smoother in our case.

At first, I was a little bit scared after reading the reviews. Everything went very well! The train departured exactly 6.05 pm as promised and the worker in the train was very helpful and spoke English well. Recommend Lotus Train - clean and no cockroaches.

The operator was very friendly and directly approachable via WhatsApp. On the day of travel, I was upgraded to the 2 birth VIP cabin for free!

The cleanliness of the train could be a bit better. The crevices in the ceiling were full of small cockroaches that kept running around the compartment. I know they are a part of life in tropical countries, but I think the amount was too much. Train operator should clean better and put up traps. Also the air con cannot be controlled well and blows directly at one of the two top bunks. So whoever gets to sleep there is kind of screwed. Should be directed more at the center.

No WiFi as it stated on the ticket. We were told the drinks (coke, tea etc) were free but you had to pay. Not that it was an issue but if your told something then that’s what you expect. Other than that everything else was ok.

The inside of the carriage was comfortable but the train is extremely noisy. The different companies share the same train (eg SE19) so the noise is the same whatever company’s carriage you choose. That said it’s an efficient (but quite expensive) way of travelling a long distance.

The train was as expected, albeit the ride was not very comfortable. However it was a bucket list item and I think it was worth the hassle of sleeping on a noisy and bumpy ride. The beds are firm. The adults didn’t sleep well however the kids were fine. Unfortunately I got off at Hue instead of Danang so I might have missed the best part of the scenery. There wasn’t much to see besides the rice patties. The snacks and water was sufficient and the toilets are looked after well enough. I don’t regret the experience as poor sleep was expected.

There had been a double booking, so we did not get the berths we had reserved. After some time, we were moved to another carriage operated by a different company.
We also had to remind the staff ourselves that breakfast was included in the price we had paid.
Although the service attendant was very friendly, smiling, and helpful, he also wanted us to pay one million Vietnamese dong so that no one else would be assigned to our compartment overnight. We had originally booked a four-berth cabin, so in principle that would have been acceptable. However, the cabin had not been prepared for additional passengers, and we certainly did not want someone arriving in the middle of the night while staff made up beds for them.
The following morning, we explained that we felt it was only fair compensation for the double booking that we were allowed to keep the compartment to ourselves. The service attendant accepted this when he came back to collect his one million dong.

Our 2 bed cabin was switched to a 4 bed cabin due to a car issue which gave us less head room as I am 6' tall. Overall the cabin was nice. The bedding had slight odor. The cabin temperature also fluctuate during the night making it uncomfortable to sleep. For the cost of $450CAD and time of 14 hours, taking a plane would have been better.

Our experience was good, booking the train was easy and the station was very helpful taking our bags to the train. We shared a 4 berth cabin with a Chinese couple and it was fine, we managed to communicate via google translate. I would advise eating before getting on the train as the food was limited. Snacks and the light breakfast was ok.

We had our tickets changed one day before with different places assigned and no chances to change for what we wanted. The train assistant in the cabin was confused and were running around for 5 minutes trying to fit us somewhere. Finally we got places in a different couch near the toilet. Than qe got other train assistant trying to sell us an upgrade to higher class.
At night someone was smoking in the near by so we smelled like the smoke was coming right in our cabin. So I don’t know who is writing good reviews about lotus train, but I wouldn’t

On time and facilities were fine, noisy, slept okay, easy to use. Had a very uncomfortable interaction with one of the train staff and felt unsafe, spoke to my cabin mates who were lovely otherwise I would not have been able to sleep. However the Lotus staff was friendly.
