Een van de beste dingen aan busreizen is dat je je reis bijna op maat kan maken en kan aanpassen aan je wensen voor privacy en comfort. Verschillende klassen en typen bussen komen tegemoet aan de verschillende behoeften van reizigers. De goedkoopste reizen worden doorgaans aangeboden door standaardklasse bussen. Ze kunnen lokaal, express of gewoon worden genoemd. Deze zijn een goede keuze voor kortere reizen. Slaapbussen of VIP-bussen zijn goed voor langere reizen en overnachtingen. Ze bieden slaapplaatsen of brede zachte stoelen met verstelbare rugleuning, soms met ingebouwde massagemogelijkheden, dekens, frisdranken en snacks, of meer uitgebreide maaltijden aan boord of tijdens toilet- of tankstops. Als je met een nachtbus reist, kan je besparen op een hotelkamer, maar om de meest comfortabele rit te garanderen moet je de klasse van je bus verstandig kiezen. De prijzen zijn altijd afhankelijk van de afstand die je rijdt en het type bus. Voor sommige, zelfs kortere reizen, is het de moeite waard wat extra geld te investeren en een zitplaats in een VIP-bus te kopen, omdat je daarmee twee keer zoveel tijd kan besparen als met een gewone bus.

Voordelen van reizen per bus
- De bus is de beste keuze om bestemmingen te bereiken die niet per trein of vliegtuig bereikbaar zijn. Het netwerk van bussen bestrijkt vaak bijna het hele land, en hun routes zijn vaak goed uitgewerkt.
- In tegenstelling tot vliegreizen en soms treinreizen, hoef je met de bus niet lang van tevoren op het busstation te zijn. Inchecken, zelfs op internationale routes, neemt niet veel tijd in beslag. De toegestane bagage is meestal zeer reizigersvriendelijk, en de vergoeding voor extra bagage, als er beperkingen zijn vastgesteld, is meestal niet erg duur.
- Bustickets kunnen voordeliger zijn dan vliegtuig- of sneltreintickets. Er is altijd een keuze aan ticketklassen voor alle portemonnees. Goedkopere standaardopties zijn misschien wat traag en bieden geen topcomfort, maar zijn hoe dan ook aanvaardbaar en brengen je naar je bestemming. Op langere trajecten zijn toiletten of toiletstops en snacks, water en soms toiletartikelen en dekens bijna altijd bij de prijs inbegrepen.
- Als je bereid bent meer uit te geven, bieden sommige VIP-bussen zitplaatsen die vergelijkbaar zijn met business class in een vliegtuig, met brede, zachte verstelbare stoelen, dekens, minder passagiers en vele andere extraatjes om van je reis een aangename reis te maken.
Nadelen van reizen per bus
- Nieuwere intercity busterminals liggen vaak buiten de stad in de buurt van grotere snelwegen, zodat de bussen de files in de stad kunnen vermijden. Helaas kan dit ook extra uitdagingen opleveren voor reizigers. Het bereiken van zo'n terminal kan een probleem zijn, omdat er op sommige bestemmingen beperkingen gelden voor voertuigen die de terminal mogen binnenrijden, en je speciale vervoerders moet gebruiken om er te komen. Dit leidt tot hogere kosten omdat de prijzen kunnen worden opgedreven. Reken ook extra tijd als je tijdens de spits reist, vooral als je de verkeerssituatie op je vertrekpunt niet kent.
- Bussen zijn waarschijnlijk het vervoermiddel dat vaker vertraging heeft dan treinen of vliegtuigen. Zij zijn sterk afhankelijk van de situatie op de weg, die soms onvoorspelbaar kan zijn door ongevallen, wegwerkzaamheden, omleidingen of andere omstandigheden. Dit geldt vooral voor reizen tijdens het weekend, het hoogseizoen of nationale feestdagen. Houd hier rekening mee en houd voldoende tijd over voor verbindingen.
- Voor reizen op bepaalde routes of tijdens de populairste periodes kan het nodig zijn vooraf te reserveren. Houd er rekening mee dat het niet altijd mogelijk is om op het busstation te verschijnen en op de volgende bus te springen - tickets kunnen allemaal uitverkocht zijn, dus plan je reis zorgvuldig.

Was very comfortable until halfway when my window started squeaking. I did have noise cancelling headphones though which helped with this. I am 5ft 9.5 and I couldn't stretch fully but managed. The round pillow you get really helped with getting comfy!

This rating is based more on the booking experience with 12go than the actual bus. We booked the VIP sleeper bus which should only have 2 rows of beds but instead we were placed on the regular sleeper bus which has 3 rows. We tried to call 12go but they do not have a phone number to contact them, the only form of contact is via email so we had no choice but to go on the regular sleeper bus. The beds are comfortable for me (female) but it was a little narrow for my husband's liking (he is medium built). The transportation from the small bus to the bigger bus was efficient and the drop off was amazing because the driver dropped everyone off at their requested address.

Somehow it seems that I paid for trip insurance which I did not intend to purchase. The trip was fine except on a sleeper bus if the driver continually honks the horn it is difficult to sleep.

Bus was fine. Slightly over time but not egregiously. My main issue is that as others have commented, the drop off location is INACCURATE. It's about 25-30 minutes drive from the city centre and probably 35-40 minutes drive from the currently listed drop off. This should be updated as a matter of urgency for transparency. As a solo traveler I had to made plans to get a taxi incurring additional cost. If I hadn't had sufficient money I'd have been stuck.

Bus was very clean! The sleeper seats are quite narrow so a bigger person could not use this. There is no toilet in the vehicle but enough stops. Only no info in English so I never knew how long the stops are gonna be.

Super Erfahrung um Schlafbus. Wasser bekommen, bequem. Ich kann die Fahrt nur weiter empfehlen. Schadw dass niemand wnglusch spricht. War sehr schwierig zu verstehen was löuft und warum man wohin umsteigen muss. Hat aber zum Glück geklappt!

Easy booking

There is one assistant who gave me a water and checking out tickets, was really rude and mean. So bad. People should be trained for certain level in service and attitude
First sleeping experience in Vietnam was fun but it could be better for sure. P

Check in operators were extremely helpful. Announcements for services are in Vietnamese with no visual indicators. However, the desk assistant who checked me in made sure to come tell me when my bus had arrived, knowing that I likely wouldn’t pick up the announcement on my own. I likely would have missed it without her support; could it be more grateful.
The bus itself was more comfy than expected (only two beds across rather than three)!
Only distracting a star because the bus only stopped once for the bathroom about an hour into the 6 hour trip.

Clean
Good communication up front.
They send us a text the bus departed 30 minutes earlier.
The pee stop was once in a lifetime. Would not have wanted to miss that in the world.
We are all 1m85 or taller the beds were hard and a good sleep is impossible but it was fun. The driver drives incredibly fast.. but as in all Vietnam all just seems to go right. Haven’t seen accidents damages etc. The give space to each other,

Found this trip extremely overwhelming and difficult to navigate as a solo traveller. The bus station to check in was packed and no signs or announcements in English make trying to navigate the system difficult. Coach made random stops throughout the journey I am unsure why. No one ever explained what was going on. I was then assisted onto another coach to take me to my hotel however the bus driver told me to get off somewhere that wasn’t near my hotel.. I explained to him and showed him on a map where I was meant to be but he disagreed and instead insisted he drop me on the side of a random busy street. Was really disappointed by this experience.

The VIP BUS facilities are really nice, I think it is worth the extra money.
it took us 7 Hours to arrive (left at 10 and arrived at 17) to Ho Chi Minh. I felt we had many stops but maybe it is good that the driver can refresh a bit. I think that if you take the night Bus it will be faster :)

Very comfortable bus and our attendant was helpful too. Only minus was that it took a really long time to get to the first rest stop (3 hours) and we were absolutely bursting for the toilet. Make sure to go before you get on the bus. Also, you'll probably get transferred by minibus to another station just outside HCMC, which makes sense given the size of the buses.

The bus was very clean and comfortable. The extra money spent on the VIP bus is definitely worth it. Everything was on time and the bus left promptly. The only downside was the announcements from the staff throughout the journey were not in English so we didn’t really know what was happening.

Very comfortable vehicle, majority of the journey was great. Stopped outside the city and had to change buses which was not explained beforehand and nobody checked my ticket so I had to find this out for myself and get on the correct bus.

Had a great ride. The drive took one hour longer than expected, but other than that it was perfect. A shuttle bus took us from the pick up location to a parking lot where the sleeper bus was waiting. We had two stops on the way where you could eat, which was good. We had plenty of space, I am 1,82m and could lie down comfortably easily. There was also a port to charge your phone. Would definitely recommend.

Make sure you do get to the Thanh Buoi bus station at least 45 mins before your sleeper bus time as there is a connecting bus to a different station first. Sleeper bus very comfortable and clean. Left on time, arrived early. Great journey

unfortunately the bus didn't stop in Ho Chi minh city at the advertised place.
Instead it stopped 25 mn away in taxi from the advertised place.
I feel this is something that can easily be fixed and should be much more transparent about. As a consequence it adds a taxi fare of 35/40% of the bus ticket.

It was a fine overall experience but just to let any travellers know, basically no one spoke English and they tried to get us off the bus in slightly the wrong place but thankfully the man next to us helped us out and explained to them that we weren’t in the right place. Make sure you have data to use google translate in an emergency

Worth the money. The process for boarding on the bus was fast. The sleeper bed comfortable and they even provide me with tissue & mineral water. Overall journey was smooth and we arrived an hour earlier from the schedule. I sleep well on the bus throughout the journey

Great bus! Sleeper beds were comfortable, despite being slightly small. The staff on the bus was super helpful, and would arrange timely stops on the way for toilets / food. My only criticism is in relation to the duration (the trip took slightly longer than usual), but otherwise, excellent service!

The seats at the windows are nice, no problem for someone with a height of 1,80 m (middle row could be a bit claustrophobic for some). You take off your shoes upon entering. There is no toilet so the bus stops twice on the 7/8 hour tour (first after about 2 hours for 15 min, then a 2nd time for 30 min.), you will get slippers for these breaks. Announcements were in Vietnamese but we were able to ask the conductor/steward with google translate. You also get a small bottle of water, wifi did not work and the usb charger was quite slow but worked. Overall good experience, would ride again
